Juniper Networks. player in automated, scalable and secure networks today announced that Liberty Global, broadband service provider, has deployed the Juniper Networks vMX Virtual Router within its networks.
This approach based on Network Function Virtualization (NFV) enables Liberty Global to provide scalable support for voice, video and data services it provides to businesses and consumers, according to both parties.
Liberty Global employs approximately 25 million customers in more than 30 countries in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. The company has 10 million mobile subscribers and offers wireless services with 10 million WiFi access points. Liberty Global strategically invests in its infrastructure to enable customers to reap the benefits of the digital revolution.
Details of the cooperation:
Liberty Global has the Juniper Networks virtual route reflector (vRR) – a specially optimized vMX that has optimized Liberty Global’s powerful performance control plane within its network.
The vMX is a virtualized carrier-grade MX Series Universal Edge Router, which runs as licensed software on x86 servers. This provides an innovative, NFV-based approach for building cloud-grade networks.
Implementing vMX as virtual route reflector ensures efficient and cost-effective scalability and performance of the control plane. In a simple way, new virtual route reflectors can be added to quickly respond to the ever increasing demand for capacity.
Virtual Route Reflection brings efficient scalability to large border gateway protocol (BGP) networks. Liberty Global can streamline its processes and reduce overall ownership costs.
Liberty Global is an existing Juniper Networks customer. The company makes use of Juniper’s powerful performing routers, switches and security solutions at various points of its network.
The Juniper’s MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers and PTX Series Packet Transport Routers provide advanced routing and MPLS capabilities, low latency multicast support and advanced quality of service and high availability functionality to the international core network of Liberty Global. The SRX Series Services Gateways are firewalls with advanced security services that keep Liberty Global data centers safe. Liberty Global uses the QFX Series Switches and EX Series Ethernet Switches in its data centers, while the servers are aggregated by EX4300 Ethernet switches. This simplifies management by Virtual Chassis technology.
